6 Kitchen Safety Rules Everyone Needs To Follow

People take kitchen safety very lightly and don’t pay much attention to it. The kitchen is one of the places where the most accidents take place. Even then, many individuals overlook the hazards and proceed with reckless abandon. Here are a few kitchen safety rules that everyone needs to follow.

Rule 1: Keep a kitchen safety kit

The most important rule is to keep a safety kit in your kitchen. There are many incidents or accidents that can take place. Don’t forget to inspect the safety gear on a regular basis. Check that all the requirements and medicines are in proper condition and not expired.

Rule 2: Don’t use the same chopping board

Use different chopping boards for raw meat and vegetables/ fruits. Using the same chopping board can cause salmonella poisoning and cause a problem for you and your family. Hence, avoid chopping vegetables, fruits, and raw meat on the same chopping board, even though it may seem tempting to skip extra work. You can opt to wash the chopping board thoroughly with soap before using it if you don’t want to buy a different chopping board for the raw meat.

Rule 3: Avoid too hot or cold stuff on glass

When glass comes into contact with heat, it expands, and when it comes into contact with cold, it shrinks. If the glass dish gets too hot, it can stretch and cause the glass to crack and will eventually break. Same with too cold glass dishes. To avoid any glass break accidents in the kitchen, you must avoid too hot and cold things on a glass dish.

Rule 4: Keep your equipment in check

Keep checking your kitchen equipment and tools from time to time. Make sure you’re not using damaged gadgets. Keep a close eye on electric kitchen tools as they can make it more dangerous if you use any damaged goods. You can get a shock if you use any damaged electronic kitchen tool. Hence, check all your equipment before you use them.

Rule 5: Learn fire safety

Many fire accidents can happen in the kitchen as you have to cook on the fire. A fire can spread fast, so you must be cautious and remove it as soon as possible. You must know the fire safety drill, stop, drop and roll (Not the TikTok video). If your clothes are on fire, you must stop, ‘drop’ to the ground, and ‘roll’ on your stomach and back until the fire is off. Learn how to use a fire extinguisher and keep it at hand in the kitchen to be on the safer side.

Rule 6: Keep the appliance unplugged when not using

Many people keep the processor or oven plugged in even after they have used it. Just switching off the button is not enough. You have to remove the plug without fail. It is a scientific fact that a low level of electricity passes through the wires even after the switch is off. Hence, keeping the appliances plugged in can cause many crucial problems.
